Tetra Tech Coffey is excited to welcome Craig Johnson as a Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer in our Victorian Geotechnical Team.

With over 30 years of experience, Craig brings a wealth of expertise in geotechnical engineering, project leadership, and infrastructure development across transport, water, renewables, and major projects.

Craig’s career spans all areas of geotechnical services, with expertise in soft soil engineering, dam upgrades, tunnel projects, geotechnical instrumentation, and large-scale infrastructure investigations. He has played a key role in major projects such as the North East Link, Melbourne Metro, Geelong Fast Rail, and Regional Rail Link.

A significant part of Craig’s expertise lies in dam engineering and water infrastructure, having spent a decade leading investigations, safety reviews, and upgrade projects for key reservoirs. More recently, he has been active in the renewables sector, supporting geotechnical investigations for wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects, including due diligence assessments for major transactions.

Craig also has a strong interest in geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, having applied advanced techniques across dams, tunnels, transport infrastructure, and renewable energy projects. He will be working closely with our instrumentation and monitoring team to integrate Tetra Tech’s cutting-edge monitoring solutions, enhancing risk management, improving asset performance, and delivering real-time, data-driven insights.

Beyond his technical expertise, Craig has extensive experience in team leadership, project governance, and business development, having managed and grown teams while delivering complex geotechnical solutions. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia (FIEAust), a Chartered Engineer (CPEng), and an active member of ANCOLD, the Australian Geomechanics Society, and the Australian Tunnelling Society.
