Katie Trevor: kickstarting a stellar career in environmental science

Nominated as a Finalist for the 2024 Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA) ‘Emerging Professional of the Year’, Katie Trevor is already making waves in her career at Tetra Tech Coffey and across the environmental science industry.

As an environmental scientist, Katie’s remarkable journey from a graduate to a standout professional in just two years highlights her unwavering commitment, tireless work ethic, and passion for environmental science. Since joining Tetra Tech Coffey in 2023, she has exemplified curiosity, ambition, and a drive to make a difference, rapidly growing into a highly regarded professional in the field.

Her proactive learning approach, dedication to quality work, and drive for innovation set her apart as a role model for emerging professionals. These attributes were recognised when Katie was honoured with the opportunity to present at the ALGA Chlorinated Hydrocarbon Symposium in early 2024.

Katie’s presentation, “Managing Risks from Chlorinated Hydrocarbons in Groundwater – A Young Professional’s Perspective“, showcased her contributions to a significant project in Western Sydney. She used her platform to emphasise the value of diverse voices in the environmental science community, saying: “Everyone in our industry has a voice and something to contribute. I feel strongly as a representative of the next generation of scientists that we all have a role in driving innovative solutions in high-risk environments.”

Her presentation resonated across the industry, inspiring professionals of all levels to embrace opportunities for growth, collaboration, and innovation.

Within Tetra Tech Coffey, Katie is celebrated for her initiative and eagerness to learn. She actively engages with senior colleagues, participates in industry seminars, and stays ahead of developments in groundwater, surface water, soil, and landfill gas monitoring.

David McFadden, Senior Associate and Team Leader of the Tetra Tech Site Assessment and Remediation Team, shared his perspective: “From the very start, Katie’s commitment to her role was unmistakable. She quickly developed a comprehensive understanding of contaminated land, managing fieldwork and data integrity for substantial monitoring programs across key infrastructure projects in Sydney. Katie has supported major Councils and key clients like Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) with professionalism and dedication.”

Katie’s standout contributions include her role on the Western Sydney Airport Project where her problem-solving skills, safety-first approach, and adaptability earned high praise from both clients and colleagues.
