Keeping up with the Law: Environmental, Heritage and Sustainability in the Geelong Region
Tetra Tech Coffey’s Kate McCallum and David Lam joined a panel of experts at THE KO event space in Geelong, Australia hosting a seminar for clients.
Our panelists covered environmental law issues, environmental duties, cultural heritage, and sustainability trends, with a strong emphasis on the compliance issues clients are facing in the Geelong region. The event underscored the importance of sustainable practices and adherence to evolving laws for all who attended.
Speakers which included:
- Gabrielle Guthrie, Specialist environment, planning & climate change lawyer at Guthrie Legal, who provided a 2024/5 update on critical environmental law issues for businesses, including compliance, enforcement, and ESG developments.
- Kate McCallum, Principal Environmental Scientist & Geelong Regional Manager at Tetra Tech Coffey and David Lam, Senior Principal Environmental Consultant & Environmental Auditor at Tetra Tech Coffey, who discussed contamination and waste updates, exploring environmental duties under the Environment Protection Act 2017 (Vic) and challenges associated with soil classification and disposal.
- Zak Jones, Principal Heritage Advisor & Heritage Team Lead at Eco Logical Australia, who shared contemporary best practice approaches to Aboriginal cultural heritage management.
- Loreta Brazukas, Australian Sustainability Lead at NDY and Hock Ter Sustainability Consultant at NDY, who discussed developments in sustainability, including the Green Star Buildings Tool and the Transition to Net Zero.
- Emma Wiggan, Director at RPS and Sophie Buchanan and Connor Burton for hosting an interactive session demonstrating RPS’ virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) capability.
