Addressing significant challenges brought about by construction on a floodplain and soft soils in New South Wales.
This four-lane 14.5 kilometre dual carriageway between Kempsey and Frederickton in New South Wales provides a safer highway route for motorists and forms part of the Pacific Highway Upgrade project.
Specialised solutions were required to address the significant challenges brought about by construction on a floodplain and soft soils and to ensure the sustainable reuse of material on site without compromising structural integrity . Drawing on our extensive experience in cuttings stability, materials re-use and soft soils our team delivered innovative geotechnical design that significantly contributed to project being completed under-budget and opening 14 months ahead of schedule.
The project won numerous awards including the Roads and Maritime Services 2012 ‘Highly Commended Award’ under the category of ‘Quality Innovation’ for the work completed on materials management; the United Nations Association of Australia Sustainability Leadership Award and the NSW Premier’s Public Sector 2013 Building Infrastructure Award.
